Welcome Bonus of the United Club Infinite

The United Club Card currently offers the following welcome bonus:

Earning Miles with the United Club Infinite

The United Club Card earns extra miles in several categories including:

Plus, spending on your United Club Visa also helps you earn United Premier elite status. Earn up to 10,000 Premier qualifying points. You’ll earn 25 PQP for every $500 you spend on purchases (up to 10,000 PQP in a calendar year).

Annual Fee of the United Club Infinite

The United Club Card has a $525 annual fee, which is one of the highest annual fees.

But if you were planning on purchasing a United Club membership, which costs $650 per year, this card is a better deal overall.

United Club Infinite Benefits

The United Club Card offers these benefits on United Airlines:

The biggest perk of the United Club Infinite card is a membership to United Club lounges, which normally costs $650 per year.

A membership gets you access to United Club lounges when flying United or a Star Alliance airline.

United Club members can also bring one adult and dependent children under age 21, or up to two adult guests. Authorized users do not get access to the United Club.

Two Free Checked Bags: The primary cardmember and one companion traveling on the same reservation will each receive two free checked bags when traveling on a United Airlines flight (worth $320 for a roundtrip flight). However, you need to purchase the flight using this card to receive the free checked bags benefit, unlike other airline credit cards.

Premier Access: This card gets you priority boarding, priority check-in, priority security, and priority baggage handling so you can breeze through the airport when you fly.

In-Flight Savings: Get 25% back in the form of an account statement credit on purchases of food, beverages, and Wi-Fi, onboard United when you pay using your card.

Award Discount: The United Club card allows the primary cardholder to book United Economy Saver Awards within the continental U.S. and Canada for 10% fewer miles.

Expanded Award Avaliability: Access additional award availability when using your United miles to book a flight. This perk can help you save a lot of miles by booking cheaper “Saver” award space over much more expensive Everyday awards.

Upgrades on Award Tickets: Normally, United Premier members only receive complimentary upgrades on cash tickets. But holding this card also makes Premier members eligible for upgrades when using their miles on award tickets.

IHG Platinum Status: The primary cardholder receives IHG Platinum elite status. The benefits of IHG One Rewards Platinum Elite status include space available room upgrades, 60% points bonus, late checkout, and a welcome amenity.

Avis President’s Club: The primary cardholder also receives Avis President’s Club status. The benefits of Avis President’s Club include a free 2-car class upgrade when reserving a midsize or above (if available), and guaranteed availability of up to a full-size car with a confirmed reservation at least 24 hours in advance.

No Foreign Transaction Fees: You can make international purchases with your card without paying an extra fee of around 3%.

Global Entry / TSA PreCheck / Nexus Credit: This card offers a credit for either TSA PreCheck (expedited airport security), Global Entry (expedited airport security and customs), or NEXUS (expedited crossing between US and Canada).

Trip Delay Insurance will reimburse any eligible expenses you incur as a result of your trip being delayed.

Trip Cancellation and Interruption Insurance reimburses you for non-refundable expenses if your trip is interrupted or canceled for a covered reason when you pay for your travel expenses with this card.

Primary Rental Car Insurance steps in as the primary coverage for any damage or theft of a rental vehicle paid for with this card without needing to use your own auto insurance.

Baggage Delay Insurance can reimburse you for the cost of necessary personal and business items while waiting for your checked bag when it’s delayed by a common carrier.

Lost Luggage Reimbursement covers the cost to repair or replace your luggage, and the personal belongings contained within if your bag is lost or damaged during a covered trip.

Purchase Protection covers eligible purchases against accidental damage or theft for up to 120 days for purchases this card.

Extended Warranty coverage adds up to an additional year of coverage for eligible purchases on manufacturer’s warranties up to 3 years.

Return Protection allows cardholders to receive a refund for purchased items within a certain timeframe for items that merchants may not accept for return.

Redeeming Miles with United Club Infinite

United Airlines is in the Star Alliance allowing you to redeem miles on airlines such as ANA, Lufthansa, SWISS, Turkish Airlines, Air Canada, Avianca, Singapore Airlines, EVA, and more.

The best thing about the United MileagePlus program is that it doesn’t add fuel surcharges to award tickets, saving you hundreds of dollars when redeeming miles on airlines such as Lufthansa.

Some of the best ways to redeem United Miles are:

  • Flying United Airlines to Europe for 31,800 miles in economy class or 80,000 miles in business class.
  • Fly Lufthansa first class from the U.S. to Frankfurt, starting at 121,000 miles.
  • Business class on a Star Alliance partner from the U.S. to Africa starting at 88,000 miles one-way.

Pros and Cons

Here are the advantages and disadvantages of this card:

  • Complimentary United Club membership.
  • Great perks when flying United Airlines.
  • Great travel and purchase protections.
  • Lots of other valuable benefits (IHG, Avis, etc.)

  • High annual fee.
  • No fee credits to offset the annual fee.

Is the United Club Infinite Card Worth It?

The United Club Card is worth it for frequent travelers on United since it gets you access to the United Club, plus many other valuable perks when flying United.

If you are not a frequent United traveler and still want perks on United for a smaller annual fee, I recommend the card_name (review), which gets you a lot of similar perks on United plus two annual United Club passes.

The United Explorer also pairs well with a higher-end travel card like the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card (review) or card_name (review) to give you more flexible airport lounge access and fee credits to offset their annual fee.
