The T.J.Maxx credit card is officially called the TJX Rewards card and earns 5x points at TJX Stores (T.J.Maxx, Marshalls, Sierra, Home Sense, and Home Goods).
1. There are Three TJX Rewards Cards
Did you know there are three TJX Rewards credit cards:
- TJX Rewards Platinum Mastercard
- TJX Rewards Credit Card
- TJX Rewards World MasterCard
When you apply for a TJX Rewards card, you will either be approved for the Platinum Mastercard or the Rewards Credit Card. There is no way to choose which version you want to apply for.
The Platinum Mastercard is designed for people with good credit and can be used anywhere where MasterCard is accepted.
The Rewards Credit Card is designed for people with average credit (at least 620) and can only be used at TJX Stores (T.J.Maxx, Marshalls, Sierra, Home Sense, and Home Goods).
The TJX Rewards World Mastercard is designed for the top TJX cardholders and offers extra benefits (detailed below). There are no exact criteria for getting upgraded automatically to the World Mastercard. Still, you should have a good credit score and spend a lot of money on your Platinum Mastercard.

2. All Three Cards Have No Annual Fee
The good thing about the TJX Rewards cards is that there is no annual fee.

3. Earn 5x Points at TJX Stores
You will earn 5x points per dollar for every purchase at five TJX Stores: T.J. Maxx, Marshalls, Sierra, Home Sense, and Home Goods.
This is equivalent to 5% cash back, with you earning $10 for every $200 in spending at TJX Stores.
For purchases outside of those stores, you will earn 1x points per dollar, which is equivalent to 1% cash back.

4. 1,000 Points Equals a $10 Certificate
Cardholders earn a $10 certificate for every 1,000 points, which will be automatically sent to you once you reach the 1,000 point threshold.
You can use the certificate online or in-store, but you can’t use the certificate for buying gift cards, gift certificates, e-gift cards, or any third-party gift cards, nor can they be traded for cash.

5. Link Your Online Account for Faster Rewards
It takes 1-2 months to receive your paper $10 certificates from redeeming your points, but you can get a digital rewards certificate within 48 hours by linking your accounts.

6. 10% Off Welcome Bonus Coupon
The sign-up bonus for a TJX credit card is 10% off your purchase, so you should plan a big purchase when you open your card.

7. You Can Apply Online or In-Store
You’ll need to provide your name, address, phone number, email, Social Security number, and annual income for either application.
8. The TJX World Mastercard Offers Nice Benefits
If you are lucky enough to get upgraded to the TJX Rewards World Mastercard, it offers some good benefits for a no annual fee card, including free cell phone insurance and special access to events and experiences.

9. No Foreign Transaction Fees
Both the TJX Rewards Platinum and World Mastercard offer no foreign transaction fees, so you can use your card internationally without a 3% fee.

10. High APR
You should always pay your credit card bill in full, but if you don’t, the TJX Rewards cards have a high 26.99% APR.
11. You Can Pay Your Card Online or By Phone
You can also pay your bill over the phone through an automated system by calling 877-890-3150.
12. Special Offers for Cardholderse
13. Counts towards Chase 5/24 Rule
One of the biggest disadvantages of signing up for the TJX Rewards Card is that it counts towards the Chase 5/24 Rule.
The Chase 5/24 Rule is that Chase will auto-deny you if you have opened 5 or more personal cards in the last 24 months.
Even though Synchrony issues the TJX Rewards card, the Chase 5/24 Rule is still relevant because you are potentially giving up a more lucrative credit card for the TJX card.
For example, you could earn a $200 bonus with the no-annual-fee Chase Freedom Unlimited or Chase Freedom Flex. Or $1,000+ in value with the Chase Sapphire Preferred with a $95 annual fee.
In contrast, your first purchase with the TJX Rewards card would have to be more than $2,000 to match the sign-up bonus of the Freedom Flex or Freedom Unlimited. (10% * $2,000 = $200).

The Verdict
The TJX Rewards card is a decent option if you spend a lot of money at T.J.Maxx, Marshalls, Sierra Trading Post, Home Sense, and Home Goods.
But for most people, I recommend cards with a better sign-up bonus like the Chase Freedom Unlimited, Chase Freedom Flex, or Chase Sapphire Preferred.
