Rent paid through Bilt on either of Qatar Airways’ two U.S. co-branded credit cards now earns 3 Avios per dollar, the result of an expanded partnership between Bilt and Qatar Airways Privilege Club. The rate took effect August 5, 2026, covering the first $50,000 of rent each calendar year.
Bilt charges 3% to push a non-Bilt credit card through its rent portal, so those Avios come at a price. Max the cap and you’ve paid $1,500 for 150,000 Avios.
If you don’t hold a Bilt Card, that’s a fair price and I would take it. If you already run enough everyday spend through a Bilt Card to hold the top tier, you’re paying to replace points you get at no cost.
What Bilt and Qatar Airways Announced
Of the 3 Avios per dollar, 1 is the card’s ordinary earn rate on eligible purchases, and 2 are new Rent Bonus Avios.
Past $50,000 of rent in a calendar year, the bonus stops. The base 1 Avios per dollar keeps running.
Two cards qualify: the Qatar Airways Privilege Club Visa Signature Credit Card and the Qatar Airways Privilege Club Visa Infinite Credit Card, both issued by First Electronic Bank and managed by Cardless.
Qatar Airways is the fourth airline co-brand Bilt has attached a rent benefit to, after Alaska, United, and Air France-KLM.
Alaska’s Atmos Rewards points and Air France-KLM’s Flying Blue miles already earn 3x at the same 3% fee. Qatar comes in level with them.
Bilt Points already transfer to Privilege Club at 1:1 on non-rent spend.
What the 3% Fee Actually Costs You
Bilt’s fee is 3% of the payment, with a $3.00 minimum for a domestic credit card and no co-brand exception.
A Bilt Card lets you pay rent with no transaction fee and earns up to 1.25X Bilt Points. That rate slides with how much non-rent spend you put on the card in the same billing cycle.
Bilt issues three cards, the Bilt Blue Card, the Bilt Obsidian Card, and the Bilt Palladium Card, and members can hold only one at a time. The rent behavior above is identical on all three, so which one you hold doesn’t change this math.
Those Bilt Points transfer to Privilege Club at 1:1. So the number that decides this is what the extra Avios cost on top of what the Bilt Card would have paid you anyway.
Readers with no Bilt Card sit in the bottom row, at a flat 1.00 cent per Avios. Everyone else takes what they put on a Bilt Card in a billing cycle outside of rent and divides it by their rent.
That percentage is the tier you earn at, and it sets what these extra Avios cost you.

The top row asks for everyday spend equal to your entire rent, every billing cycle, which almost nobody sustains. Most Bilt cardholders sit a tier or two down, paying somewhere between 1.20 and 1.50 cents an Avios.
The Two Qatar Cards That Qualify
The Visa Signature carries a $99 annual fee, and the Visa Infinite carries a $499 annual fee. Both earn 1 Avios per dollar on ordinary purchases.
The Signature pays 4 Avios per dollar on Qatar Airways purchases and 2 at restaurants; the Infinite pays 5 and 3.
Welcome bonuses run up to 40,000 Avios on the Signature and up to 50,000 on the Infinite. Both grant first-year status, Silver on the Signature and Gold on the Infinite, which maps to oneworld Sapphire lounge access.
What the Extra Avios Do—and Don’t—Unlock
Toward Qatar Elite Status
Paying rent through this doesn’t move Qatar elite status. The 2 bonus Avios per dollar earn no Qpoints, and only the 1 base Avios per dollar counts.
A maxed $50,000 of rent produces only about 66 Qpoints on the Infinite and 50 on the Signature, against the 270 Qpoints Gold renewal requires in 12 months.
Even those Qpoints wouldn’t be enough alone. Qatar also requires 20% of your Qpoints from flights marketed and operated by Qatar Airways, or 4 flight segments in 12 months, or 8 in 24 months, to earn or renew any tier.
Spend alone can never earn or renew Qatar status.
Toward the Booking Fee Waiver
The Booking Fee Waiver refunds Qatar’s carrier-imposed award booking fee. Unlike elite status, rent spending through Bilt genuinely counts toward it.
Activating it takes $15,000 of eligible purchases in your first 12 months, and renewing it takes $25,000 in each following 12-month period. In rent terms, that’s $1,250 a month to activate and about $2,084 a month to keep it.
The refund arrives as a statement credit only after every segment on the reservation has been flown. A reservation that’s refunded or only partly flown earns nothing.
Who You Can Actually Book Awards For
Since December 4, 2025, the Booking Fee Waiver has applied only if you are a ticketed passenger on the award reservation.
It’s worth nothing on an award you book purely for someone else.
Who you may book for is governed separately. My List holds up to four adults who are already Privilege Club members, and Family & Friends holds up to six people who are not.
Both ask for one qualifying activity, either a flown flight on Qatar Airways or a partner, or at least one eligible co-branded credit card transaction.
Any single purchase clears that second bar. A $5 coffee on the card is enough.
Moving Avios over from Bilt, or from anywhere else, doesn’t count as a qualifying activity, at any size. A member with a large transferred balance and no Qatar flying can’t book for anyone else until they buy one thing on the card.
Gold and Platinum members skip the qualifying-activity requirement entirely, though they have to book through Qatar’s Contact Centre or Member Service Centre rather than the website. That’s the one path to booking for someone else without a purchase first.
Where This Fits
This offer flips from good to bad depending on who’s reading it. With no Bilt Card, rent buys Avios at a flat 1.00 cent apiece with no spending games attached.
Off-peak, a one-way in Qsuite from a U.S. gateway to Doha runs around 70,000 Avios, so a maxed cap covers a round trip. Peak dates price higher and wouldn’t fit.
If you maximize a Bilt Card, I would skip this. Paying 1.71 cents an Avios to replace points you already earn for free is more than I would pay for Avios.
The rent spend looks like it buys two things at once: Booking Fee Waiver progress and the ability to book awards for other people. They don’t stack.
The waiver pays out only when you’re on the ticket, and the nominee unlock costs a single small purchase: the $1,500 in fees buys you exactly one of the two.
What to Know Before You Pay Rent on the Card
- The card has to be linked to your Bilt account, and the charge has to be classified as rent under Bilt’s merchant identifier, which means paying through Bilt’s rental payment portal.
- Non-rent charges earn nothing extra, even when they run through Bilt.
- The Pay with Venmo flow does not qualify. Setting the Qatar card as the backup funding source does not change that.
- Mortgage payments are excluded, even though Bilt rewards mortgages generally.
- The $50,000 cap is per calendar year and resets January 1.
- Bonus Avios post separately from the base Avios and can take up to 12 weeks to land in your Privilege Club account.
The Verdict
Get one of these cards and run rent through Bilt if you have no Bilt Card, you fly Qatar Airways or a oneworld partner, and your rent sits between $1,250 and about $4,167 a month.
At 1.00 cent an Avios, that’s a defensible price for a business-class currency. The same dollars also switch on the Booking Fee Waiver.
Skip it if you already maximize a Bilt Card, or if Qatar and its partners aren’t where you fly. That’s the worst version of this: 3% to build a balance you won’t spend.
And if all you want is the ability to put family on your Avios, make one small purchase on the Qatar card and stop there.
