How To Keep Hyatt Points From Expiring

You can reset the expiration clock of your points for another 24 months if you have any qualifying activity that adds or deducts points to/from your Hyatt account.

Here are some examples of activities that will generate activity in your account:

Staying At Hyatt Hotels & Partners

Booking a paid or award stay at Hyatt’s collection of brands counts as a qualifying activity, since you’re either earning points or redeeming them.

Eligible hotel and resort brands include the Park Hyatt, Thompson Hotels, Hyatt Centric, Zoëtry Wellness & Spa Resorts, Secrets Resorts & Spas, and more.

Apart from Hyatt brands, you’ll also earn points when you stay at participating international small luxury hotels and MGM resorts.

Just remember to book directly with Hyatt because any bookings made through third-party agencies won’t earn points.

You also need to complete your stay by checking-in and checking-out. No-shows might not earn points.

Spending on a World of Hyatt Credit Card

One of the easiest ways to earn Hyatt points is by spending on a Hyatt credit card including:

Transferring Chase Ultimate Rewards Points To Hyatt

You can transfer your Chase Ultimate Rewards points to Hyatt at a 1:1 ratio since World of Hyatt is a Chase transfer partner

Three cards let you transfer directly to Hyatt:

Chase also offers four no-annual-fee credit cards that earn Ultimate Rewards points, but you will need one of the above cards to unlock airline and hotel transfers:

Hosting Meetings & Events At Hyatt Properties

You earn points by hosting meetings and events at Hyatt properties. Hosts earn 1 bonus point per dollar spent (up to 50,000); however, these points don’t count toward World of Hyatt elite status.

Hyatt Dining & Spa Partners

Even if you don’t spend the night at Hyatt hotels, you can earn or redeem points on eligible Hyatt dining and spa services. Members will earn 5 base points per dollar spent.

Booking Hyatt Experiences

Members can book over 200+ experiences on Hyatt either with points or cash.

For paid experiences, members earn:

Converting Hyatt Points To Airline Miles

One of our favorite World of Hyatt perks is the ability to transfer World of Hyatt points to airline partners. It gives you flexibility on how you want to use your points, whether for hotel stays or flights.

  • Aeromexico
  • Air China
  • Air France
  • All Nippon Airways
  • American Airlines
  • Asiana Airlines
  • British Airways
  • Cathay Pacific
  • China Airlines
  • China Eastern Airlines
  • China Southern Airlines
  • Delta Airlines®
  • Emirates Skywards
  • Etihad Airways
  • Japan Airlines
  • Korean Air
  • Lufthansa
  • Qantas Airways (within Australia)
  • Qantas Airlines (outside Australia
  • Qatar Airways
  • Royal Brunei Airlines
  • Singapore Airlines
  • Southwest Airlines
  • Thai Airways
  • United Airlines
  • Virgin Atlantic Airways

The minimum conversion amount is 5,000 Hyatt points but you have to check with your preferred travel partner to see the actual conversion rates.

However, most partners convert at a rate of 2.5 points to 1 mile so that’s 5,000 points to 2,000 miles (which isn’t a great conversion value).

There are some partners that offer higher rates. For example, transferring 5,000 Hyatt points to the partners below will get you the following conversions.

  • Aeromexico – Get 4,000 LAN kms
  • Air China – Get 3,200 kms
  • China Eastern – Get 3,200 points
  • Qantas Airways – Get 2,400 points
  • Southwest Airlines – Get 2,400 points
  • Virgin Atlantic – Get 3,000 miles

Earning Hyatt Points On American Airlines

All World of Hyatt elite status members can earn 1 Hyatt point per dollar spent on eligible American Airlines flights. That’s in addition to the AAdvantage miles you’ll earn for being a member of the AAdvantage program.

All you need to do is to link your World of Hyatt and AAdvantage accounts.

Purchasing Hyatt Points

We don’t really recommend purchasing Hyatt points, since you won’t get much value for it.

If you really need to do it to keep your Hyatt points from expiring, you can do a minimum purchase of 1,000 points for $24 (2.4 cents apiece). However, do watch out for bonus promotions to lower the costs of your purchase.

Renting A Car From Avis

Booking a car rental from Avis with cash or points will count as a qualifying activity.

World of Hyatt elite status members can earn 500 bonus points and up to 25% off base rates for every qualifying rental they book.

Gifting Points To Another Member

Members can send points to one another every 30 days, and this is one of the easiest and cheapest way to reset your points expiration date.

To send points, you need to complete a point-transfer form and submit it to Hyatt through email or mail.
