Best Ways to Earn Korean Airlines SkyPass Miles

Earn Points by Flying on Korean Air and SkyTeam Partners

Flying on Korean– You can see the one-way mileage based in economy class via Korean’s chart. You may receive more or fewer points based on your fare class.

Flying on SkyTeam Airlines: Aeroflot, Aerolineas Argentinas, Aeromexico, Air Europa, Air France, China Airlines, China Eastern, China Southern, Czech Airlines, Delta, Garuda Indonesia, Kenya Airways, KLM, MEA, Saudia, Tarom, Vietnam, and Xiamen Airlines.

Other Partners: Alaska, American, Emirates, Etihad, GOL, Hawaiian, and Jet Airways.

Transfer Partners to Korean Air Skypass

Marriott is the only main transfer partner of Korean Airlines with a 3 (Marriott) to 1 Korean point transfer ratio. You can also get an additional 5,000 airline points bonus if you transfer in increments of 60,000 Marriott points. (e.g., 60,000 Marriott points become 25,000 airline points, whereas if you only transfer 59,000 Marriott points, you would only get 19,667 airline points)

Skypass Select Visa Signature

Benefits: $200 travel credit, Global Entry Credit, 10,000 points at renewal if you spend $35,000, $100 discount coupon off Korean Air Ticket, Two $25  Korean Air in-flight duty-free coupons (on $50 purchase), 2 KAL lounge coupons each year, and no foreign transaction fees.

Verdict: You are better off getting the Chase Sapphire Reserve ($300 travel credit and 3x on travel and dining. You can transfer points to Korean)

U.S. Bank Skypass Visa Signature

Annual Fee: $80

Earning: 2 points per dollar on Korean Air and 1 point per dollar everywhere else.

Benefits: Two Korean Lounge Coupons each year (must be flying on a Korean ticket), 2,000 points at renewal (worth about $36),  no foreign transaction fees, and no pre-set credit limit.


U.S. Bank Skypass Visa Classic

Earning: 1 point per $1.

Benefits: 1,000 bonus miles at renewal (worth about $18)

Verdict: Avoid. Chase Ultimate Rewards cards at least earn one point per dollar, which can be transferred to Korean Air.
