Best Ways to Earn Avianca LifeMiles

Avanca regularly sells LifeMiles around 1.4 cents per point if you wait for a sale. We publish LifeMiles sales when they happen in our Daily Points emails.

Fly on Avianca and Their Partners

Flying on Avianca- The international chart is below. For flights within Colombia, Ecuador, Central America, or Honduras, see their earn charts.

Flying with Partners– You can see the points earn rates for Avianca’s Star Alliance partners plus Aeromexico and Iberia by clicking on each partner’s logo on their website.

Transfer Partners

LifeMiles is a 1 to 1 transfer partner of Citi ThankYou and American Express Membership Rewards. LifeMiles is also a 2 to 1.5 airline point from Capital One, and a 3 to 1 transfer partner of Marriott, which you can get a 5,000 airline point bonus if you transfer 60,000 Marriott points.

Avianca Vuela Visa Credit Card

Annual Fee: $149

Earning: 3x at Avianca; 2x at gas and grocery; and 1x everywhere else.

Benefits: No foreign transaction fees, 15% discount on the purchase of miles during “Multiply your Miles” promotion, free additional checked bag, and two 50% discounts on award tickets for travel from the U.S. to Central America or Colombia if you spend $12,000 each year (additional one if you spend $24,000 in a year).

Verdict: This card is a good deal because you get the bonus after your first purchase. This card is the equivalent to buying LifeMiles at .25 cents each, which is a great deal ($149/60,000).

Avianca Vida Visa Credit Card

Application Link (Target: 20,000; Current: 20,000) (bonus after using the card once)

Annual Fee: $59

Earning: 2x on Avianca and 1x everywhere else.

Benefits: 15% discount on the purchase of Lifemiles during “Multiply your Miles” promotion.

Verdict: I would not get this card and instead get the above Vuela Visa, because since with this card paying the annual fee is like buying LifeMiles for 30 cents per point, whereas above you are only paying 25 cents per point.

Other Ways

Monthly Subscription: LifeMiles has a program called Club LifeMiles (requires sign in) in which you subscribe to purchase a set number of points each month. The plan for 6,000 and 8,000 points per month will only cost you 1.39 cents per points with their bonus. ($92.99 per month and $129.99 per month, respectively)

Car Rental and Hotels

Hotel Portals: RocketMiles and Kaligo (you forgo hotel points and elite benefits for airline points).
