Delta Airlines Medallion Elite Status Guide

Qualifying for Delta Medallion Status

To earn Delta Elite status you need to earn a combination of MQMs= Medallion Qualification Miles (distance flown), MQSs= Medallion Qualification Segments (segments flown), and MQDs= Medallion Qualification Dollars (spending on Delta and most partner flights).

Silver

  • 25,000 MQMs or 30 MQSs
  • Plus $3,000 MQDs or spend $25,000 on eligible SkyMiles Credit Cards.

Gold

  • 50,000 MQMs or 60 MQSs
  • Plus $6,000 MQDs or spend $25,000 on eligible SkyMiles Credit Cards.

Platinum

  • 75,000 MQMs or 100 MQSs
  • Plus $9,000 MQDs or spend $25,000 on eligible SkyMiles Credit Cards.

Diamond

  • 125,000 MQMs or 140 MQSs
  • Plus $15,000 MQDs or spend $250,000 on eligible SkyMiles Credit Cards.

Elite Status Match- If you hold elite status with another airline, you can match your status to Delta. You will get elite status for 90-days, but you can extend that status if you fly a certain amount within 90-days.

  • Priority security

  • Marriott benefits (late check out and upgrades)
  • Hertz President’s Circle Status.

You can also choose one of the following:

  • 4 regional upgrade certificates- available using any main cabin fare except Basic Economy or an award ticket. Valid one year from the date they are requested, so you could wait until any time before January 31 (expiration of status) to request upgrades, which are then valid for 12 months. The upgrade still has to clear, but you will be prioritized higher than other Medallion complementary upgrade requests.
  • Global Entry voucher (worth about $100, but so many cards offer this as well, so I would skip)
  • 20,000 bonus miles- I value this around $280, so I would probably choose either the upgrades or gift of silver status.
  • Gifting Silver Elite Status- This gives whoever you choose Silver elite status for the rest of your elite year. So timing is very important. If you gift Silver status in November, the person only enjoys 2 months of Silver elite status, whereas if you gift it to them in Febuary, they get 12 months of elite status.
  • $200 Travel Voucher or $200 Gift Card to Tiffany & Co.

Diamond Elite Benefits

  • 11 miles per dollar
  • 120-hours before departure access to unlimited first-class upgrades
  • Access to unlimited Comfort+ upgrades shortly after ticketing
  • Waived same-day change fee
  • Waived stand-by fees
  • Waived award re-deposit fees
  • Priority security
  • Free CLEAR membership (private security line)
  • Expedited baggage
  • Delta SkyClub and Skyteam lounge access on international flights
  • Marriott benefits (late check out and upgrades)
  • Hertz President’s Circle Status.

You can choose three of the following:

  • 4 Global OR 8 Regional OR 2 Global AND 4 Regional Upgrade Certificates- You can only choose one from that set of three options. If you chose upgrades for your Platinum benefit, you get those as well, so you could come away with a good amount of upgrade certificates. These are valid one year from the date of selection, so be sure to wait to select the voucher before the first time you could use one. Global certificates can get you upgraded (if you booked the correct fare class) to business class on Virgin Atlantic, KLM, Korean Air, and Air France (only premium economy). However, you won’t know if the upgrades clear until usually the day of departure.
  • 2 Global Entry Vouchers
  • SkyClub membership
  • Skyclub Executive Membership (requires 2 credits)- This gives you SkyClub membership for the entire elite year and allows you to bring in two guests.
  • 1 Skyclub Guest Pass- This allows you to bring in two guests into the SkyClub for that elite year. This is designed for those that already have a SkyClub membership or the American Express Platinum or American Express Delta Reserve card.
  • 25,000 miles- This is worth about $350 in our valuations. You can choose this option 3 times if you wanted for 75,000 SkyMiles.
  • $200 Delta Travel Voucher or $200 Tiffany Co. gift card.
  • Gift of Gold Elite Status- The person you give it to can enjoy Delta Gold status until the end of the elite year (January 31)

Notes

  • Basic Economy is not eligible for upgrades.
  • Medallion Complimentary upgrades are not eligible for Delta One (top international first class) or Delta Premium Select (international premium economy).
  • Companions are giving the same upgrade priority as their elite status member (i.e. if you are Platinum and your companion has no status, you will both get Platinum upgrade priority).
  • Priority of Upgrades: 1. Medallion Status, 2. Fare Class Groupings, 3. Delta Reserve Credit Card Holders, 4. Delta Corporate Travelers (certain program), 5. Card Members who earned MQD Waiver in the current calendar year, and 6. Date and time of the upgrade request.
