Good Things about Citi
Offer Match- If there is a higher offer available within a month of you being approved for a card, most of the time Citi will match that offer. Just send them a secure message and request a match.
Bad Things about Citi
Least Valuable Transferrable Points– Citi’s ThankYou points are the least valuable of the three major credit card transferable points systems (American Express Membership Rewards, Chase Ultimate Rewards, and Citi Thank You). American Express has regular transfer bonuses plus transfers to ANA. Chase allows you to transfer to Hyatt and United. Citi has several pretty good award partners, but there’s not one outstanding one and most are also transfer partners of American Express and Chase as well.
Hard to Earn Lots of ThankYou Points- Citi only lets you earn one bonus from any of the ThankYou points cards every 24 months from opening or closing a card. This generally means you can only earn 50-60,000 ThankYou points every 24 months from signup bonuses. Whereas, it is pretty easy to earn 150,000+ points each year with American Express.
Website and IT– Citi’s website and IT needs a major upgrade. Their website is very clunky and sometimes hard to find things. Their fraud department is usually pretty delayed as well.
Lack of Spending Offers– American Express has Amex Offers, which offers a certain dollar amount as cashback or extra points for spending money at a specific retailer. Chase is starting to roll out Chase Offers. Citi has yet to try out anything similar. (They would probably need to improve their IT and website to accomplish this)
