Hyatt & American Airlines Status Matches

World of Hyatt is offering a 90-day status match program for American Airlines AAdvantage elite members through October 31, 2025.

AAdvantage Gold, Platinum, Platinum Pro, and Executive Platinum members can receive immediate Explorist status for 90 days with no initial stay requirement.

To keep Explorist status through February 2027, you’ll need to complete 10 qualifying nights within the 90-day trial period.

AAdvantage Platinum Pro and Executive Platinum members can earn Globalist status by completing 20 qualifying nights during the same 90-day window, unlocking premium benefits like suite upgrades and club lounge access.

A reverse offer allows Hyatt Discoverist, Explorist, and Globalist members to fast-track to AAdvantage elite status with a four-month Instant Status Pass, requiring registration through their AAdvantage account by September 4, 2025.

Air Canada Goes Revenue-Based

Air Canada is switching to a revenue-based earning system for Aeroplan points and elite status qualification starting January 1, 2026, abandoning its current distance-based model.

Under the new structure, you’ll earn 1 Aeroplan point per dollar spent on base fares and carrier-imposed surcharges when flying Air Canada, with elite members earning 2-6x points per dollar based on their status tier.

Air Canada is introducing Status Qualifying Credits (SQC) as the single currency for elite qualification, replacing the current combination of Status Qualifying Miles, Segments, and Dollars.

Economy Basic fares won’t earn any SQC, while Economy Standard fares earn 2 SQC per dollar and all other fare classes earn 4 SQC per dollar spent.

The elite status thresholds will require 25,000 SQC for 25K status, 35,000 for 35K, 50,000 for 50K, 75,000 for 75K, and 125,000 SQC for Super Elite status.

You can earn up to 25,000 SQC annually through partners like Starbucks, Uber, Marriott, and LCBO at a rate of 1 SQC per 5 Aeroplan points earned, plus additional SQC from premium credit card spending.

Air Canada is launching new Milestone Benefits that replace current Select Benefits and Priority Rewards, offering automatic eUpgrades every 10,000 SQC and selection-based rewards every 20,000 SQC.

Elite members will be able to share eUpgrades with up to four travel companions (increased from two), plus an additional four on the day of travel for the same flight.

The eUpgrade add-on fee for Economy Standard fares is increasing by $100 CAD for North America flights and $150 CAD for international routes starting January 1, 2026.

This marks the end of rollover Status Qualifying Miles, with 2025 being the final year, though unused miles will convert to SQC at a 5:1 ratio in 2026.

U.S. Bank Altitude Connect 30K Bonus

U.S. Bank has increased the welcome bonus on its Altitude Connect Visa Signature Card to 30,000 points after spending $1,000 within the first 90 days, representing a 50% improvement from the previous 20,000-point offer.

The enhanced bonus is worth $300 when redeemed through the U.S. Bank travel portal or deposited into qualifying bank accounts, though cardholders who also have the U.S. Bank Altitude Reserve can potentially boost redemptions to 1.5 cents per point.

Beyond the welcome offer, the no-annual-fee card delivers 5x points on prepaid hotels and car rentals through the Altitude Rewards Center, 4x points on travel, gas stations, and EV charging (capped at $1,000 quarterly), 2x points on dining, streaming, and grocery purchases, plus perks including Global Entry/TSA PreCheck credit and four annual Priority Pass lounge visits.

World Of Hyatt Points Sale

World of Hyatt just launched a promotion offering 20% off purchased points through October 6, 2025, bringing the cost down to 2.08 cents per point when you buy at least 5,000 points in a single transaction.

The regular price for World of Hyatt points increased earlier this year from 2.4 cents to 2.6 cents each, making this discount less attractive than previous promotions that offered 20-30% bonuses or discounts at the lower base price.

You can purchase up to 55,000 points per calendar year per account, and the program allows point transfers between accounts for redemptions with restrictions including once-per-30-days combining limits and requirements to use combined points for specific award bookings.

United's Mystery Bonus Sale

United Airlines launched a Buy Miles Mystery Bonus promotion running through August 24, 2025, where MileagePlus members receive personalized discounts or bonuses of up to 100% when purchasing miles.

At the maximum 100% bonus, you’ll pay 1.88 cents per mile, and United recently increased the annual purchase limit from 175,000 to 200,000 miles per calendar year (though sometimes you can buy up to 250,000).

The promotion runs from 8:00 a.m. CT on August 5 through 11:59 p.m. CT on August 24, with purchased miles being nonrefundable and not counting toward Premier status, though purchases made with a United MileagePlus card will earn additional miles as a United purchase.

TAP Second Stopover 50% Off

TAP Portugal is temporarily increasing its second stopover discount from the usual 25% to 50% off airfare between Portuguese destinations, though you’ll need to book by September 8, 2025, for travel starting September 1.

The airline’s free first stopover in Portugal for up to 10 days remains unchanged, but this limited-time promotion makes adding a second Portuguese city significantly cheaper whether you’re exploring the mainland or hopping to islands like Madeira and the Azores.

You can take advantage of this offer on both paid tickets and Miles&Go program redemptions across TAP’s extensive network that spans from San Francisco to Montreal in North America, plus numerous European destinations and former Portuguese colonies like Brazil and Mozambique.

United Airlines Ground Stop

United Airlines experienced a nationwide ground stop Wednesday evening starting around 6:15 p.m. EST due to a technology issue that affected systems feeding flight times and weight-and-balance data into other flight programs.

The ground stop lasted approximately two hours, with United announcing the underlying issue was resolved just after 10 p.m. EST, though the airline warned passengers to expect residual delays as operations returned to normal.

As of 10:30 p.m. EST, FlightAware showed one-third of United’s mainline flights were running behind schedule, with both delays and cancellations increasing following the ground stop as the airline worked to get crews and aircraft back on track.
