Bilt’s September Rent Day hits Virgin
Bilt’s September 1 Rent Day is a status-based transfer bonus to Virgin Atlantic Flying Club and Virgin Red. The bonus applies to the first 150,000 Bilt points you transfer that day, a bigger cap than the recent 100,000-point limit, and the clock is just that one day.

This is a top-up tool if you already have a Virgin award in mind, not a speculative stash for most Blue and Silver accounts. Chase and Amex still run 30% to 40% Virgin bonuses several times a year.
Virgin charges few points on U.S.–U.K. awards, but the taxes and fees are high. Economy savers start around 6,000 points, premium economy around 10,500, and some business awards around 29,000 plus several hundred dollars in fees.
You can connect Virgin Red and Flying Club so one transfer covers flights and Red redemptions. The 150,000-point cap already applies across both programs whether the accounts are linked or not.
Bilt Blue Card, Bilt Obsidian Card, and Bilt Palladium Card holders also get double points on non-rent spend, up to 1,000 bonus points. Some targeted accounts get a bigger statement-credit redemption that still pays poorly next to transferring for flights.
The rest of Rent Day is the usual extra pile. The Rent Free game runs through September 1 with Hugh Jackman, and the top winners get a month of rent paid, up to $2,500.
There are also Global Citizen Festival tickets in New York on September 26, plus the usual comedy nights, neighborhood dinners, and complimentary SoulCycle and Barry’s classes. Play and book inside the Bilt app if the Virgin seat is already on your screen.
Frontier lowers Diamond, cuts basic-fare miles
Frontier Miles just made top-tier status easier and cheap tickets earn a lot less. Elite Diamond now takes 75,000 elite status points instead of 100,000, effective immediately, so 2026 flying can still land you Diamond for 2027.
Silver, Gold, and Platinum stay at 10,000 / 20,000 / 50,000 for this year’s qualify window. On January 1, 2027, Silver rises to 15,000 and Gold to 25,000.
Starting September 1, a member with no cobrand card earns 1x on basic fares and 6x on Economy, Premium, or Business bundles. A Frontier Airlines World Mastercard® holder at Diamond can reach 14x on basic and 22x on those same bundles before any extra card-bonus miles some accounts still get.
Non-cardholders lose ground on basic fares and on bundles. Cardholders lose on basic fares and come out ahead on all three bundle types.
For the 2027 status year, complimentary UpFront Plus or first-class upgrades start at Silver on a timed, space-available schedule. Bags get heavier at the top, and Platinum loses unlimited companion travel for two companion certificates.
This helps regular Frontier flyers who will carry the card and chase Diamond. It hurts anyone whose whole strategy was the cheapest basic fare and no cobrand.
Citi ends Aviator grandfathered perks
Former Barclays Aviator holders who were migrated to Citi in April are losing the temporary Barclays perks that Citi left on the accounts. Most of those grandfathered benefits stop on October 25, 2026.
If you were on Aviator Red and now hold the Citi® / AAdvantage® Platinum Select World Elite Mastercard®, the anniversary $25 Wi-Fi credit ends that day. Aviator Silver holders who now have the Citi® / AAdvantage® Globe™ Mastercard® lose 2x on hotels and car rentals, the $25 daily food-and-beverage credit, and the $50 anniversary Wi-Fi credit.
Hotels and cars fall back to 1x.
The American Airlines companion certificate still has one more shot. You can earn it one final time through your next card anniversary, and certificates already in your AAdvantage account keep their original expiration dates.
Globe holders also keep the up-to-15,000 Loyalty Points benefit through the status year that ends February 28, 2027. A lot of these cards opened on October anniversaries years ago, so for some people that last companion cert lands right as the rest of the Barclays stack disappears.
Re-price the annual fee against what is left before you renew. If the companion cert and core AAdvantage earning were the whole case for keeping the card, October is the decision month.
Rove adds dining and in-store miles
Rove, the card-free travel-miles program that launched in April 2025, just turned itself into something closer to a full earn platform. Members can now link a payment card for Rove Dining and for in-store card-linked offers, on top of the flight, hotel, gift-card, and online-shopping earn it already had.
Rove also rebuilt the hotel booking flow, launched the iOS app with an Android public beta, and added instant-earn gift cards. Transfer partners are up to 20.
The catch is the usual card-link trap. Rove will not name the dining network, so linking a card here may knock you off AAdvantage Dining or another Rewards Network program.
Read the unlink emails before you attach your best dining card. Instant gift-card miles are useful for topping off a transfer, not for manufacturing a balance.
This is for people who already like Rove’s hotel and shopping earn and want more everyday coverage without adding another cobrand.
United puts the A321XLR on domestic routes
United’s new Airbus A321XLR will fly passengers before the December Europe launch, but the first rides are domestic. The type starts Washington Dulles (IAD) to San Diego (SAN) on September 9 and Dulles to Los Angeles (LAX) on October 1, then moves to the already-announced daily Dulles–Amsterdam and Dulles–Dublin flights on December 1.
The cabin is still the long-haul layout: 20 Polaris suites, 12 Premium Plus, and a large economy cabin with a rear snack bar. MileagePlus awards on the inaugural Dulles–San Diego are showing in the low teens of thousands in economy, with Polaris awards later in September from about 85,000 miles when space is there.
Treat this as a short window to sample the new metal without a transatlantic itinerary, not a permanent coast-to-coast product. Book on united.com if you want that September 9 ride before the plane disappears into Europe.
Amex is paying bigger Platinum and Gold referrals
Some holders of The Platinum Card® from American Express and the American Express® Gold Card are seeing elevated referral bonuses, as high as 45,000 Membership Rewards® points on Platinum and 40,000 on Gold. Check your own Refer a Friend tile.
The friend can open another eligible Amex product, including a current Delta SkyMiles® American Express® card, and you can still get the elevated referral.
Alaska adds Jetstar as an earn partner
Alaska Atmos Rewards added Jetstar as an earn-only partner. You only earn if you book the Jetstar flight on Alaska’s website, and you cannot redeem Atmos points on Jetstar. There are no elite benefits, because Jetstar is not in oneworld.
On the radar
- Southwest is selling Rapid Rewards points with a targeted discount of up to 45% (about 1.65 cents each) through August 31 at 11:59 p.m. CT, up to 60,000 points per day. Check your account before you buy; some people only see 35%.
- Marriott Bonvoy’s next global stay promo is 1,500 bonus points per paid stay of two-plus nights from September 22 to November 22, plus 3,000 more at resorts. Registration is set to open September 9.
- Hilton Honors properties are already floating a 2,500-points-per-stay promo for September 3 through December 31. Wait for the official registration page before you plan around it.
- Air Canada is running up to 5 bonus Aeroplan points per Canadian dollar on economy travel worldwide for November 1–30 travel if you book by September 3.
- Best Western Rewards is set for double points globally September 8 through December 31.
- Delta’s 12Status promo is back for Washington state residents: 1 SkyMile per Seahawks passing yard.
- American Flagship Dining expands to Flagship Business on September 15, with LAX Flagship dining still on the way back.
