American Express has two Everyday credit cards. The standard Everyday credit card has no annual fee and the Everyday Preferred has a $95 annual fee. Each card has similar benefits, but the main reason why you would pay the extra $95 annual fee is for the ability to earn more points.
The Preferred card earns an extra 1 Membership Rewards Point per dollar at supermarkets (3x vs. 2x) and at U.S. gas stations (2x vs. 1x). The Preferred card also earns an extra 50% bonus on your monthly points if you complete 30 or more transactions per months, whereas the Everyday card only offers a 20% bonus for 20 transactions per month.
We value Membership Rewards points around 2 cents per points. To justify the extra $95 annual fee, you would need to spend at least $2,400 a year in gas and groceries plus complete 30 transactions per month. If you can’t complete 30 transactions per month, you would need to spend about $4,800 in gas and groceries to justify the higher annual fee.
