Citi Double Cash Card Benefits

Citi eliminated most standard card benefits in 2019, so the benefits for the Double Cash are limited to:

Citi Concierge– The Double Cash card has access to the Citi Concierge to assist you with your travel, shopping, dining, entertainment, and everyday needs. You can contact them at or 1-800-508-8930.

Citi Entertainment– Citi Entertainment gets Citi cardholders special access to purchase tickets to thousands of events, including pre-sale tickets, and exclusive experiences.

Shoprunner– This benefit gives you free 2-day shopping at 140+ online retailers.

Citi Identity Theft Solutions– If your personal information has been stolen to commit fraud or theft, Citi has a team of specialists to help you restore your credit even if occurred on a non-Citi card.

Free FICO Score– Your FICO score is the most common credit score used by U.S. lenders, and Citi provides this for free to cardholders.

Redeeming Citi Double Cash Rewards

You can redeem your cash rewards when your balance reaches at least $25 by:

  1. Requesting a check for at least $25.
  2. Redeeming for a statement credit for at least $25.
  3. Redeeming for a credit to a linked Citi savings or checking account from which you have paid a Citi credit card at least twice.

You can also convert your cash back to ThankYou rewards points and transfer to several airline points programs at a 1 to 1 ratio.

Advantages of the Double Cash Card

2% Cash Back– The main benefit of this card is the 2% cash back with no annual fee. Other competing cards such as the Chase Freedom Unlimited offers only 1.5% cash back and the Discover IT card only offers 1% cash back after the first year.

2x Points Everywhere– You can get even more benefit from the 2% cash back by converting it to ThankYou points, which allows you to earn 2x ThankYou points everywhere. We value ThankYou points at least 1.5 cents each, so you can effectively earn at least 3% in value for every dollar spent.

Disadvantages of the Double Cash Card

No Benefits– Citi eliminated most card benefits across their entire card portfolio in 2019. The Double Cash card lost several nice benefits such as price protection and extended warranty. If you are looking for a no annual fee credit card with travel and purchase protections, you should consider the Chase Freedom and Freedom Unlimited.

Foreign Transaction Fees– Citi charges a 3% fee on any foreign transactions with your Double Cash card.

Lack of Sign-Up Bonus– Signing up for a card without a welcome bonus is always a disappointment. But the 18-month 0% APR balance transfer offer is a nice perk for new card holders. You could pay down other credit cards or utilize that offer to generate cash to make smart investments.

The Verdict

The Citi Double Cash is a very simple card with no annual fee. You can either get 2% cash back or get more value by converting to ThankYou points and booking that next trip in business class.
