Welcome Bonus for Amazon Business Prime Card

The Amazon Business Prime American Express Card currently offers the following welcome bonus: bonus_miles_full

Business owners should note that this card requires an eligible Amazon Prime membership, which can be either a personal Prime membership or an Amazon Business Prime membership. The card issuer doesn’t specify any specific spending requirements to earn the welcome bonus, making it a straightforward offer compared to many other business cards.

Earning Rewards with Amazon Business Prime Card

With the Amazon Business Prime American Express Card Card, you’ll earn:

  • 5% cash back or 90 Day Terms on all purchases made at Amazon, Amazon Web Services, and Whole Foods with eligible Prime Membership (up to $120,000 in purchases each calendar year, 1% back thereafter);
  • 2% back at U.S. restaurant purchases;
  • 2% back at U.S. gas stations;
  • 2% back at U.S. wireless service providers; and
  • 1% back on all other purchases.

While this card shines for Amazon-related purchases, its 1% base rate on everything else makes it suboptimal for general spending. The 5% earning rate is compelling for businesses heavily invested in the Amazon ecosystem, but the $120,000 annual cap could be limiting for larger operations.

For everyday business expenses outside of Amazon, many other business cards offer stronger earning rates across broader bonus categories. Consider pairing this card specifically for Amazon purchases while using other cards for general business spending.

Annual Fee

The Amazon Business Prime Amex has no annual fee (rates & fees), but you must have an eligible Amazon Prime membership ($139/year) or Amazon Business Prime membership (starting at $179/year) to qualify for the card.

Employee cards are available with customizable spending limits, and purchases made on these cards earn rewards for the primary account holder.

Amazon Business Card Benefits

The Amazon Business Prime American Express Card offers the following benefits for cardholders:

No Foreign Transaction Fees: You’ll save money on every purchase while traveling internationally since this card doesn’t add the typical 3% surcharge that many other cards impose.

Amex Offers: As an American Express cardholder, you can access Amex Offers. These targeted, limited-time promotions provide discounts or bonus points on purchases with select merchants. Offers are added to your card, and you’ll receive either a percentage or dollar amount back as a statement credit when you meet the offer terms. While offers vary and may not always align with your spending habits, this perk can be valuable when an offer matches your preferences.

Extended Warranty Protection: When you purchase items with your credit card, you’ll get an extra year of warranty coverage on eligible items that have original manufacturer warranties of up to five years. This valuable perk means you can protect expensive electronics and appliances that come with longer manufacturer warranties without paying extra for store protection plans*

90-Day Purchase Protection: Your new purchases are covered against damage and theft for 90 days when you use your card. This protection helps safeguard your eligible items right from the moment you buy them.*

Secondary Rental Car Insurance: This card provides backup protection for rental car damage or theft when you charge the full rental to your card.*

Baggage Insurance Plan covers your baggage if it is lost, damaged, or stolen and you purchase your ticket with this card.*

* Eligibility and benefit level varies by card. Terms, conditions, and limitations apply. Please visit americanexpress.com/benefitsguide for more details.

Redeeming Rewards on the Amazon Business Prime Card

Rewards earned on your Amazon Business Prime Amex don’t expire. However, your options are limited when it comes to redemptions.

You can redeem your rewards in two ways: during checkout at Amazon.com and Amazon Business (U.S.), or as a statement credit. You can’t redeem rewards for actual cash back.

Each point can be redeemed at one cent apiece. If you don’t have enough rewards for redeeming an item, you can use your card to pay the difference.

Pros and Cons

Here are the advantages and disadvantages of this card:

Pros:

Strong Amazon Earning Rate: You’ll get an excellent 5% back on Amazon.com, Amazon Business, AWS, and Whole Foods purchases up to $120,000 per year, making this card particularly valuable for businesses with significant Amazon spending.

Flexible Payment Options: The ability to choose between earning 5% back or getting 90-day interest-free payment terms provides helpful cash flow management flexibility for your business.

Travel and Purchase Protections: The card includes valuable benefits like baggage insurance, car rental coverage, purchase protection, and extended warranty coverage, all without charging an annual fee.

No Annual Fees: You won’t pay an annual card fee or foreign transaction fees, helping maximize the value of your rewards and saving money on international purchases.

Cons:

Prime Membership Required: You must maintain an Amazon Prime membership to qualify for this card, which effectively creates an annual cost through the Prime membership fee.

Limited Reward Categories: Outside of Amazon-related purchases, the card only offers 2% back on restaurants, gas stations, and wireless services, which may not align with your primary business expenses.

Spending Cap on Top Rewards: The 5% earning rate is limited to $120,000 in annual Amazon-related purchases, after which it drops to just 1% back.

Restricted Redemption Options: Rewards come as Amazon points rather than cash back, limiting your redemption flexibility compared to traditional business cash back cards.

Is the Amazon Business Prime Card Worth It?

If you’re running a business that regularly makes purchases from Amazon’s ecosystem of services, the Amazon Business Prime American Express Card offers exceptional value through its 5% rewards rate on Amazon Business, AWS, Amazon.com, and Whole Foods Market purchases.

You’ll also pick up solid earnings on everyday business expenses like restaurants, gas stations, and wireless services at 2% back, though the main appeal is definitely the Amazon-focused benefits.

The flexibility to choose between earning 5% back or getting 90-day payment terms on Amazon purchases provides valuable cash flow management options for your business.

While you do need an eligible Prime membership to qualify, the card itself has no annual fee and comes with useful protections like purchase protection, extended warranty, and rental car coverage.

The bottom line is that if your business spends significantly at Amazon and you already have Prime, this card is absolutely worth adding to your wallet – just be aware that rewards come as Amazon points rather than traditional cash back.
